CLARA TORNER
About

Clara Torner (Barcelona, 1997) is one of the emerging voices in Barcelona’s free improvisation and experimental music scene.
With a background in classical and contemporary performance, she turned to free improvisation in search of a new relationship with the cello and a different way of approaching composition and performance.
She creates spontaneous sonic ecosystems through extended techniques and prepared cello, drawing inspiration from fragmentation—what is suggested or implied but left unsaid—memories and their distortion, and the contradictions that emerge from them. Her musical language spans from the most subtle and crystalline sounds to the most energetic and unrestrained.
Projects
HYPAR
HYPAR is a free improvisation duo formed by Clara Torner (cello) and Gerard Erruz (live electronics). Situated at the crossroads of experimental music, free improvisation, and ambient/noise, HYPAR blends contemporary music techniques with digital media to create sonic journeys that connect with the audience, evoking dreamlike worlds and fragments of memory through the fragility of listening.

HYPAR has performed at venues such as Teatre de Sarrià (in collaboration with dancer Glòria Ros), LaKontra de Gràciaas part of Gràcia Territori Sonor, Sinestesia, the Cicle Indeterminat (Cardedeu), Nocturna Discordia at Soda Acústic, and the FREE BRULL series at Ateneu LaBase (in collaboration with dancer Marlène Jöbstl).
The project was born during a residency at the Centre i Teatre de Sarrià in Barcelona (2023), supported by a research and innovation grant from OSIC (Generalitat de Catalunya).

Nekuia
Nekuia is a solo cello journey into the depths of the unconscious and the landscapes of memory. Pushing the acoustic timbres of the instrument to their utmost limits, it weaves a subtle discourse of shadows—tracing both what is spoken and what lingers in silence. The name “Nekuia” comes from the ancient Greek term for a journey to the underworld, evoking a dialogue with the unseen, the remembered, and the hidden. In this project, sound becomes a vessel for memories, shadows, and whispers that exist between what is said and what remains unspoken.
